We're Agnes Gustafsson and Norah Stenström, and together we make up the Education Team of the I-section. Alongside our amazing class representatives, the REPIs, we work with the programme management to continuously develop and improve the education. It's a role we find both incredibly rewarding and genuinely meaningful!

Tips from the Education Team
Starting university should feel exciting and fun! At the same time, it is a big change. Many students move away from their hometown and take their first independent steps into student life. To make the beginning a little easier, we in the Education Team have gathered practical information for the start of the semester, along with our best study tips.

What do I need to do before the start?
On the page https://www.lu.se/studera/livet-som-student/ny-som-student there is a step-by-step guide with five important things you need to do before the start of the semester. Don’t forget to also respond “yes” to the digital programme registration! If you want to know more about this, you can find additional information on https://www.student.lth.se/ny-student/.
Where can I buy the course literature?
Course literature is nothing you need to worry about before moving to Lund—it is best handled once you are here. During the orientation period, there will be opportunities to buy second-hand course literature from your phaddrar, both through direct sales and via a Facebook group. In addition, the Student Union (Teknologkåren) has its own bookstore, KFS, which sells course literature among other things, and Adlibris Campus in the city centre also sells second-hand course books.
What does a semester look like at LTH?
Unlike high school, a semester is divided into two study periods of eight weeks, during which you will take two or three courses. These courses are examined and completed at the end of each study period, after which you begin a new study period with entirely new courses.
During your first study period, you will take the mathematics course Single Variable Calculus as well as the economics course Industrial Engineering and Management, General Course. Each week, lectures and exercise sessions are offered for the courses, and for the mathematics course you can also attend SI sessions. An SI session is a student-led study session with relaxed collaborative learning, discussion, and problem solving. All of these resources are designed to give you the help and support you need to succeed in your courses!

STUDY TIPS
Get your course literature
When the semester begins, it is a good idea to get your books as early as possible so you can start working on assignments right away. However, you should not sit down and read the book cover to cover. Instead, it can be helpful to briefly skim the chapters that will be covered before each lecture, so that you recognize the concepts being explained.
Orientation Period
The orientation period can be perceived as a lot of fun, but also quite intense. Therefore, participate as much as you want and have the energy for, so that you still have time for rest and studying.
Also make use of the time during the three study evenings that are organised during the orientation period! These are perfect opportunities to catch up on studying while also being able to ask questions to older students.
Start studying early
University exams are significantly more extensive than those in high school. Therefore, try to always keep up with the material after each study week.
Failing an exam
Life doesn’t come to an end if you fail an exam! Most students fail at least one exam during their studies, and it is always possible to retake it later. Everything will work out in the end!
Don't Worry
There is a lot of new information at the start of the semester, which can feel confusing, but don’t worry! Attend lectures, work through exercises, and ask others for help, and things will hopefully become clearer before the exam. Try to find a study partner you can work and discuss difficulties with, as two brains are often better than one.
Before an exam
A good way to get an idea of what might be important for the exam is to work through past exams. This quickly shows you which areas you are less confident in and need to practise more.
Make sure you also understand the course content and ask your questions throughout the study period. You don’t want to have to go through entirely new topics during the exam period.
We are here for you
Your time in Lund will be one of the best periods of your life. It will be most enjoyable if you manage to find a balance between your studies and the many different activities and commitments you can take part in and get involved with.
Before you can reach that balance, however, you will need some patience for the adjustment period that is required. This transition is completely natural and something everyone experiences, as university studies differ greatly from high school both in structure and pace.
At the section and at LTH, we have all the tools and support functions needed to help you succeed. Therefore, set realistic expectations, allow yourself time to adjust, and don’t hesitate to seek help from friends and phaddrar. The memories you will make during this time will be unforgettable!
